Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey Role in Human Rights
We live in an unfair world where the powerful always intimidate the weak. For instance, the case for Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey is a living example. Having dedicated their lives to defending the rights of the oppressed, they found themselves victims of police harassment and intimidation 10 years ago. A sheriff in Maricopa County known as Joe Arpaio ordered the two gentlemen to be arrested.
According to the arrest warrant that was used, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were accused of printing grand jury proceedings about the sheriff in their media outlets. Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey are the owners of the Phoenix New Times and Village Media Voice.
They had been accused printing information about how Sheriff Joe Arpaio abused his office. For instance, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey mentioned that the sheriff had encouraged women rape. At the same time, they revealed that the sheriff encouraged child molestation.
They also printed information about how the sheriff encouraged the plights that immigrants in the United States face. Having filed a case against the sheriff, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were awarded a compensation of $3.75 by a court in the United States. During the hearing, the judge mentioned that the sheriff denied the two the rights offered to them by the first amendment.
Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey were grateful for receiving justice in a case that was in court for over 10 years. The two businessmen agreed that they would use the money to fund the Lace and Larkin Frontera Fund.

The organization through its website says that they follow the procedures that have been established by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1976.
Therefore, HRF believes that every citizen of planet earth has the right to worship in their manner of choice, speak freely as long as they don’t trespass and has the right to associate with like-minded people.

Vaclav Havel was also associated with the origination till his untimely death in 2011, and he served as the chairperson. At the moment, Human Rights Foundation is chaired by Garry Kasparov, the chess grandmaster. Previously, Thor Halvorssen served as the chairman but had to resign for personal reasons.
